I have the (late diagnosed AuDHD + Hypermobility) Burnout so my rebellion activity by necessity, consists of making different lifestyle choices. A simple one that makes me feel as powerful as leading the revolution itself, is not buying anything new. Sometimes and with some items it’s unavoidable, but diy, thrift, upcycle, recycle, re-purpose pay-it-forward etc is a great way to explore our conscience and consciousness regarding this theme. Thanks for your post 😊

I came across a great "pillar of consumption" infographic yesterday, which I don't need to share with you because you nailed it all in that sentence!

I hate that the times are what it takes for so many to be forced into these "acts of rebellion", but I'm glad for anyone and everyone to get there by some means.

Do you have a favorite DIY solution? The most obvious that comes to mine (though not necessarily a favorite) is the stack of take out bowls from Chinese food. We rarely go out, but the bowls that food comes in lives on to hold leftovers, use as serving bowls for snacks and easily labeled storage for just about anything.

My wife makes upcycled jewelry, so it's even possible to "be pretty" with thrifted goods.

Everything counts in large amounts!

It actually feels more natural and fulfilling to my unmasked self to live like this. And yes like your family, I like taking a moment to ponder ‘rubbish’ before it goes in the bin. There’s heaps of ideas on YouTube etc re ways to up cycle stuff we usually throw away. Collecting and disposing of stuff well that’s the conditioning we’ve received over here in Australia; similar consumer culture to yours.

I want to acknowledge also that having the capacity to look at our conditioning and let it unravel is a privilege. It’s complex isn’t it and right now I feel my attention wanting to ramble about the myriad layers of complex issues. 😰

Back to the point, regarding favourite diy I like using things I find on walks or packaging that comes into the house to make household items, artistic creations, toys, games etc. Gradually as the consumer culture items we have wear out or get given away, they are replaced with hand made/altered/tinkered things. Favourite one I’m doing at the moment is using branches I find fallen (in places where they’re not needed by the ecosystem), as hanging storage for all my artist paint tubes.
