Overcoming the Weekend Slump and Getting Back to Action
A great start week, overdoing it later in the week leads to a weekend of brain mush.
Some days are definitely diamonds and some days aren’t. I hate when the diamonds correspond with me needing to do other things.
My brain was on fire with ideas yesterday morning, but I had a commitment to meet friends, so I didn’t start writing. By the time I got back to my desk, the fire was out.
That’s the joy of solopreneurship, or trying to make a living through creativity. It’s hard to take a day off and risk losing it.
The Past Week
I was traveling for part of last week, visiting my Mom in Oklahoma City from Saturday through Wednesday. I’m pleased to say I managed to keep my writing routine going while still doing chores around the yard for her. Oddly, I got back and that’s when the routine started to slip.
Last week I wrote:

Lessons Learned
Traveling and being able to write was nice, I feel it’s a good signal of my ability to stay committed. It also proves that I don’t need a perfect setup to get things done.
What traveling affects is my motivation to work ON the business, things that need to be done instead of just writing. That and engagement. As my newsletter mentioned last week, I am finally understanding engagement, but it was difficulty finding the time to read and engage in all the places I need to engage.
On Friday I wrote just under 4k words… on Saturday I was fried. Work-life balance Jody.
Recovering from a busy day takes longer than the busy day created.
Gratitude
I’m grateful that I was able to spend time with my mom (she’s 83) and help here with things she has trouble doing on her own. Being self-employed definitely makes it feel easier for me to just take off like that.
What’s Coming Up
This week, I’m setting myself up to get consistent with engagement. Talking to people that read my work, people whose work I read, and people that should fall into either of those categories.
Last week, I added a coaching or mentoring option to the Channeling Chaos newsletter. The first 10 people that sign up for the annual subscription will get a one-hour session with me to help them channel the chaos in their life, whatever that may look like.
Thanks for Reading
I’m excited to have you here and hope to start to get to know you. If you’re actively reading, please let me know. It makes me feel good and keeps me inspired to write!
