I fear for the future generations. We are moving to an era where loyalty and accountability will be lost.
If it's so cool to severe ties with family that means forgiveness will be lost and that won't stop the abusers.
But if we make them accountable for their actions and mend the breaks, we can still hope they change for good.
Yes, we all make our choices. However selflessness is still a stronger force than selfishness, which is what happens when we over prioritize our choices over everything and everyone else.
If we want to save our humanity, we need to dail down on individual choices. Look at the chaos happening all over the world.
Wars and chaos just because one person is enforcing his desires on others. See how Putin and Trump's choices are endangering lives. Our choice should stir towards serving a greater good not just ourselves.
Thanks for this perspective, Jessey! I'm not sure if I'm being sensitive, and you think I'm trying to make everyone an individual at the expense of humanity, or if you're adding points to strengthen it all. 😬
I may have come across too direct when it comes to family ties. I think family is great, I hope it can become greater, but there are cases for somewhere family is a pain point. If your family is mentally abusive, or refuses to accept you... if you have no home with family, you don't have to stay.
The family that has blocked or unfriended me for having "liberal views" is not shunned on my end. If they can recognize that I won't cotton to hating minorities, that I won't idolize a leader because he will 'own the libs' and heck, just talk to me again, then it's not outside the realm of possibilities. But I won't remain silent on the topic, I won't compromise.
A tribe, should be like-minded, or open-minded souls with a set of common beliefs and an aligned goal.
I want everyone to find their tribe, I want everyone to be surrounded by a family that holds them accountable without judgment, while building them up.
I also want everyone to recognize that unchecked groupthink is bad, and no leader is greater than the group they're leading.
I agree that it takes a village.
I agree that there need to be compromises and selfless behavior.
I think the thing that's suffering is how the need to 'just get along' has been used to quell any dissent and to weaponized to foment silence where we need the loud voices.
